Operation Good Care is your Council's opportunity to get "The Guide to Good Care" notebook, software and accessories into the hands of your family, friends, and those you care about. The Archdiocese of San Antonio Chapter kicked off this promotion in July 2005. The authors are two San Antonio Knights, Gilbert Garza and his cousin Cesar Camacho. They created this product based upon their experience in caring for a father, mother, and brother who all had serious medical conditions.

The Guide to Good Care is an organizational system for documenting your health care in order to make sure you are in control of the information. Fr. Michael J. McGivney, the founder of the Knights of Columbus, said

"The First Duty of a Catholic husband and father is to his family - to care for their needs while alive and, to the best of his ability, to provide for their care at the time of his death."

How does The Guide To Good Care help me?

You have to take responsibility for your own health care, to the degree you can.  You cannot completely trust your health care to any health care organization or doctor - the system is overwhelmed. As the  "baby boomers" continue to burden the already straining health care system, it will be your responsibility to know what diagnosis has been made for you or your loved ones, what medications are being prescribed, and what treatment the health care providers expect you to receive.  No one should care more about your health care than YOU!  And you are responsible for the health care of your loved ones - your parents, your elderly relatives, your spouse, and your children. This guide will help you ORGANIZE, DOCUMENT and MAINTAIN your health history.

How does The Guide To Good Care help my Council?

For all Guide to Good Care products (Includes loose leaf book, software, newsletter, and all accessories) which are sold because of a lead from someone in your Council  the Council will receive a donation from GTGC Publishers. On the basic guide, Retail price is $39.98. The Council will receive a $15 donation for each book sold.  The money will be sent monthly to the Council.  All you need to do is introduce the product to those you know.

How does The Guide To Good Care help the Archdiocese Chapter of the KCs?

Based on total volume, the Chapter will receive a 2.5%  donation. This will give the Chapter funds to use for its many projects, including Habitat for Humanity, the Religious Appreciation Dinner, annual men's retreat, couples retreat, awards and recognition, support to the seminarians, and many others.

What is our relationship to the American Diabetes Association?

The Chapter and the American Diabetes Association, South Texas Region, have entered into a partnership. The ADA believes this product is the "missing link" in Diabetes education. They will promote the product at their fairs, booths, seminars, "Walk for Diabetes," "Diabetes Sundays" programs, TV and radio advertising. They will direct the public to the Knights of Columbus to help purchase the product. When using flyers, brochures or cards to advertise the sale of the products, whichever Council number is used will get the donation. The Chapter will collect an additional 2.5% donation which they will turn over monthly to the ADA. The total donation is 5% (2.5%  for the Chapter and 2.5% for the ADA).

How can I order these products wholesale to have on hand?

Although you don't have to maintain any inventory, if you want to have the products on hand, you can bulk order them in case or individually. Download the attached KC order form.

How can the public order these products?

1. On the web, at www.theguidetogoodcare.com Use PayPal or a Credit card.  There will be a question box, asking if you are supporting the Knights of Columbus. After checking the box, a list of the Councils in the Archdiocese will appear. Selecting your Council insures your Council receives a donation.

I'm Ready, what do I need to do?

Download the agreement form. Each Council must have on file, with GC Publishers, an agreement listing the names and addresses of two officers of the Council. This is where the check will be sent to. It also reminds the Council of some marketing restrictions and the need to maintain a non-profit status.
