April  19,  2006 - Council 10181, St. Joan of Arc.

Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Chapter President Mike Nishimuta at 7:40 pm

Opening Prayer: Led by Bishop Flanagan

Pledge of Allegiance: 

Warden’s Report:  Given by Roy Ball. There were 63 members present.

Recognition of Guests and VIPs.   Past State Deputy, past and current Diocesan Deputies and out of town guest Albert Stryk who is running for Warden of the Texas State Council.

First Time Attendees were recognized. 

Minutes.  Minutes of the March meeting were approved as amended.  The date on the Treasurers report was corrected to 2006

Chapter Chaplain Bishop Tom Flanagan.  Bishop Flanagan thanked the couples who hosted the couples retreat. There were 29 couples who attended. He reminded everyone that the KC men retreat would be September 22,23, and 24.  Bishop Flanagan invited everyone to his celebration of his 50 year anniversary of his Priesthood.  He will have two celebrations. One will be on Wednesday June 7, 2006 at St. Vincent de Paul Parish starting with the Celebration Mass at  pm.  The second will occur on Sunday June 11th at St. Brigid Parish starting at 3:30 pm.

President’s report - Chapter President Mike Nishimuta

Thanks to all who turned out to support the Free Throw Tournament.  Great job to Jim Wade, all the DDs and volunteers, Ernest Saldivar and Reno Puente.

Thank Rudy Escamilla and the Knights who served the priests who gathered prior to the Chrism Mass on April 11.

Books for Seminarians. We ordered 65 copies of Parish Priest for our Seminarians. The cost was $991, or $15.25 each. We received contributions

$300 - Council 9291 and $150 - Bishop Flanagan. That leaves $540. Can 5 Councils make a $100 donation for the Seminarian to receive this book.

Ad for State Convention Book has missed the deadline but every effort will be made to get it in the book for the conventions.

Hospitality for State Convention. Last year these Councils helped  raise $600

We are looking for donations for this years hospitality central function. We also need drivers for the May 5 to Eagle Pass and donation for gas.

Officers for 2006-2007.  Appoint John, Doug and Rudy to nomination committee.  Installation in July, election in June, present nominees in May. If you are interested in serving in any officer capacity, please contact Rudy Escamilla.

Catholic Charities Gala, May 25, Omni Hotel, honoring Rev Louis Zbinden and Bishop Zurek. We received an invitation for the annual gala. Tickets are $100 a person.  Councils are encouraged to support this, and if you can only send one or two people, let's have a Chapter table.  Contact Mike Nishimuta.

Guest:  Alfred Stryk spoke to the chapter about his desire to be Warden for the Texas State Council. He is from Pearland Texas and will be a Knight for 41 years in November.

 A motion to approve the Treasurer's report was made and seconded. The chapter voted to approve the treasurer’s report.

General Agent:    Richard Gaona spoke about councils who have made their quote and mentioned those councils who already made Star Council, Councils 9967, 9795, 4140, 10712, 10434, 8327. Richard spoke that there is the potential of having 33 Star Councils this year. He requested that form 100 be send to him instead of Supreme just to make sure that all form 100 are processed by Supreme. If you need help call him.

Chapter Committees:

1.  Golf Tournament.   Rusty is doing a great job. There is a need for 20 more volunteers for the tournaments. Wives can volunteer. Volunteers should bring water, sun screen. Several Councils brought checks to the meeting.

Auction Party report. Bob Von Lehmden noted that we are not sold out as of tonight. Auction items are really great.  Sell your tickets. One of the items is a Barge ride for 10 people with Bishop Flanagan. He request that each council to provide $50 so the committee can purchase items for the Auction on  April 30 at  Pat O'Briens. He also needs volunteers for loading the gifts and for cleaning up. A request for names of all of the golfers is needed because that is how golfer will be admitted. 344-2733 is the the number to call with names of golfers. Check the website  http://sagolf.org.

2. Habitat for Humanity - No report.

3. Coordinator of Religious. Rudy Escamilla

Assumption Seminary Gala - May 17 at the River Center Marriott.  The PolloFest was a success.

4. Couple's Retreat.  Charlie Carvajal reports that the couples retreat was a great success. 31 couples and Bishop Tom were there. Financially, they raised more money than they spent, $436.24. Thanks to all who supported it.  From the proceeds, Charlie paid our annual bulk mailing permit fee of $160.00.

5. Trustees.   No report.

New Business.

Fr  Xavier Ray, Director of Campus Ministry from Madonna University in Detroit, has five students and two faculty who will be staying with very poor families that either reside in Ejido Santa Maria or Ejido Rancho Nuevo (province of Coahuila, Mexico), where Felician Sisters serve. The group’s purpose is to serve those in need and promote the Catholic faith by participating in the Holy Mass or Rosary’s at the local church. THey need transportation from San Antonio to Eagle Pass on April 29 and May 6.  It would be great if we could assist these missionary college students by providing one round trip for 7 people. I need two drivers on April 29 from 2 pm until midnight and two on May 6 from 5 am until 2 pm. Alex Bautista Council 11298, and Richard Gonzales Council 5262, with another, have volunteered to drive. We could use a few donations to pay for the gas. I estimate about

Ad for State convention is $250 for a full page.  This was in the budget, and an ad will be purchased.

Diocesan Deputy Report -   Jim Wade.  We have had a lot on our plate. We are so close for so many councils but we must maintain in fact we must make more of an effort in this final period to reach and reach our goals.  The goal for the tootsie roll drive with ten council still not reporting is at $11,000.  The Basketball Free Throw Tournament was a great success. State was very complimentary. We have many activities coming up

Special Olympics.  Absent.

Guest Speakers:

St. Matthew Catholic Church on Friday April 28 at 7:30 pm will have a free concert for Habitat for Humanity.

Council #6833 Little Flower will have a Mother's Day Dance on Saturday, May 13, 2006. Mariachi and Music by the Los Unicos. Cost is $12.50 per person. Contact Fred Garcia at 735-5782 or Marcos Villalon at 736-2004.

Council 4183 a major degree in New Braunfels. On I35 exist on Walnut St. go two traffic lights turn right on Landa street go two blocks.

Council 6833 has a $10,000 sweepstakes for Sunday June 25, 2006. Grand Prize is $5,000 the cost of the donation is $100 a ticket. Contact Fred Garcia or Marcos Villalon for a ticket.

Council 7016 will be having its The Mid Summer Gala this year. There are only three 300 tickets for a $5,000 raffle, tickets are $50.

Seminarian Program, there are 65 seminarians. We have 15 seminarians from San Antonio. We are still looking for support from councils to support the the remaining seminarians nine councils have provided support for our seminarians whole 6 other councils have provide support for seminarians from outside the diocese. We need more participation from other councils to support. All it takes is $500 with $100 being returned by Supreme.

Cliff Estes reported that we are short $500 to provide ArchBishop Gomez with a Cardinal Medrdous.

Council 10181 has tickets for their Spring Festival on Saturday May 20th there are food and  games

The Next meeting will be May 17, Council  4315, Our Lady of Fatima

The sick and in distress were remembered.
