Opening Prayer:  Fr. Fidele Dikete led the opening prayer.

Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Chapter President Ken Martinez at 7:30 pm

VIPs and first timers to the Chapter meeting were recognized.

The Warden vouched that all in attendance are members.

Minutes.  Secretary Mike Nishimuta published the minutes on the Chapter Web Site at http://kc.texascomputerhelp.com.   The minutes were accepted as printed.

Special Guests

Joe Verastegui, of Robstown, Council 3110, is running for State Warden. He addressed the Chapter on his background and why he wants to be elected to the state office. He is currently Master of the Texas 4th District of the Fourth Degree.

Jim Gallagher, of Ft Worth, is running for State Warden.  He is currently the Chapter President of the Ft Worth Diocese.

Brother Rick Jones of Council 786 gave a presentation on the Santa Maria Mission for the Children & Elderly.  He and his wife quit their jobs to dedicate themselves to the foundation which raises funds and volunteers  for the Santa Maria mission in Central  Mexico. The mission houses 330 young and old people who are homeless or abandoned.  The home was established in 1975.  Donations can be sent to the Santa Maria Foundation for Children & Elderly, 3355 Coral Grove, San Antonio, TX 78247-4822.

President's Report

Ken is looking for a volunteer to help prepare and distribute the Chapter Newsletter.

Elections are coming up in June. Please prayerfully consider helping the Chapter. Mike Urrutia will head the nominations committee.

Chapter Committees:

1.  Habitat for Humanity and Golf Tournament -   Bob Von Lehmden. The golf tournament was a resounding success. Director Reggie Thorpe and a cast of thousands are to be thanked for the hard work which led to a sold-out event. We successfully raised the funds needed to build a house this year.  May 3 will be a wrap-up meeting at Holy Spirit Church Library, 7 pm. Make sure your Council's participation is built into next year's budget.

2.  Website.  The Chapter website is available at http://kc.texascomputerhelp.com. Please review the web pages, especially the list of Councils and submit any corrections to Mike at mike@nishimuta.net 

3.  Chapter Rosary and Social.  (Brother Fred Diaz, GK 7342). The monthly rosary is held on the  3rd Tuesday of each month at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church downtown, 617 South Santa Rosa, in Church Hall, and we begin at 7 pm.   Please ask your members to commit two representatives for each monthly rosary.

4. Pro-Life.   None.

5. Special Olympics. Brother Don Smallwood.  The Special Olympics will be held beginning at 7:30 on May 1. We need lots of Knights for support.  It will be held at Frank Mata Stadium.  

Old Business:

A farewell tribute for Archbishop Flores is planned for  May 26  at the River Center Marriott.  This is the 4th Annual Assumption Gala, chaired by Veronica Salazar of the San Antonio Express News.   The Chapter will have a table and Councils are asked to plan on buying a table for 8 and sending members to attend. Council 4140 and 11596 will also have a table.  $75 per person.

State Convention.  Council 7265 hosting the Archdiocese hospitality suite for the State Convention. We need donations of cash or liquor. Councils please provide any that you can.  You can give donations to Ken Martinez. We've raised $175 so far, we need more.

New Business: We are raising funds for a Cardinal Mederos award in Bishop Flanagan's name. All Councils are requested to contribute.

The final going away event for Bishop Flores will be held on Sunday, Jun 13 at St Mary's University 2 pm. This event will be open to the public, and all Bishops from the United States and Mexico will be invited. There will be Pre-Mass entertainment, followed by Mass at 4 pm. We are supporting the event with ushering, Fourth Degree Turnout, and transportation to/from the airport.

We have been asked to support the Supreme Convention in Dallas, as part of the host state, by contributing to the brochure. Full page ads are $250. We'd like to have a chapter ad, so if some Council's can make a small donation we'd appreciate it.

Fourth Degree: No Report.

Speakers:

Earl Mills, DD presented the Christopher Award to Joe Sepulveda Council 10295 for his work in Scouting.    If you are a Grand Knight of a Council that sponsors a troop, when a young man makes Eagle Scout, you should be presenting them the certificate which is available free from the Knights of Columbus. The Ad Altare Dei Award is the award that Catholic Scouts can

Deacon Vick encouraged support for Council 6358's resolution 43 for the State Convention, allowing Deacons to become honorary life members.

David Gomez. Council 7983 Prince of Peace is conducting a 5K fun run for Fiesta 2004 on Saturday, April 24th. It will be at Brackenridge Park at 8:30 am. Contact Joe G. Lopez at 520-6660 or David Gomez at 682-4270.

KC Night at the Ballpark. (Bob Von Lehmden)  The game is scheduled for July 18, Sunday 6 pm.  The Missions will play the Frisco Ruffriders. $6 per ticket.  The Missions website is www.samissions.com 

Rudy Escamilla, GK Council 4140. The Council will host a fundraiser for the UTHSC neo-natal unit with a Spaghetti Dinner on May 6. 

Rudy thanked us for our support of the reception following the Chrism Mass during Holy Week at San Fernando Cathedral, where we hosted the bar after the Mass, attended by over 150 Diocesean Priests.  Fr Garcia has asked us to do the same thing next year.

Host Grand Knight  Brother Henry Gonzales was recognized, and thanked for his help in reactivating Council 9730. They have more than 30 brothers now.

Host District Deputy.  DD  Ernest Saldivar was recognized, and thanked for reactivating Council 9730.

Next meeting will be May 19 at Our Lady of Fatima, Council 4315.

The sick and in distress were remembered.
