Correspondence - Chapter VP Bob Von Lehmden

Habitat for Humanity – two letters from Bill Winscott (6/2/3)  thanking us for our donations raised from the Golf Tournament for $20,000, and for our $500 commitment to become a “Faith Partner.”

$20,000 is the down payment for the house which will be built on Sept 12. The total will be $45,000 for this year (2003-2004).

From Archbishop Flores  – The settlement with Juli Villegas Phelps was for $300,000. We have received $210,000 from Priests, Bishops, Sisters, Deacons, Organizations, Relatives, and friends in the Archdiocese. $90,000 is still needed.

Chapter Committees:

1. Habitat for Humanity - Sam Szalwinski.  Sam reported on the 2003 building schedule. Thank you to everyone who has contributed so much in building three houses over the past three years. If you have been fortunate enough to see the family at the house blessing, and know their gratitude, it will keep you involved. We are beginning our next house on Friday, Sep 12. The interfaith or (Ecumenical) build will start at the same time. I don’t expect we will participate in both. Construction is primarily on Fridays and Saturdays. I tried to get more flexibility to get us to work more Saturdays, but was not successful. We have six weeks of Fridays and Saturdays committed. DDs and GKs, please start planning now. In our Council we are inviting our families, our Parish members, anyone. It doesn’t have to be just Knights. I’ll pass out the schedules at the 26 July training conference.

2. Chapter Rosary and Social. (Brother Fred Diaz, GK 7342). The monthly rosary is held on the  3rd Tuesday of each month.  Last night they had steak dinner social afterwards.

3. Squires -  Brother Lonnie Roberts. Those with Squires need to send in the Sexual Abuse Application, for anyone working with Squires. State convention is Jun 27-29 in Brownsville. Please send in your dues ($20), or you can’t attend the convention.

4. Pro-Life: (Deacon Allan Fitzpatrick) No report.

5. Retreats - Wayne Pipes. Next Tuesday is the first meeting for the KC Retreat planned for Oct. 7 pm. The meeting will be in the conference room of the Red Roof Inn downtown.

6. Special Olympics. Brother Don Smallwood is recuperating from knee surgery. Last Saturday they had a send off for eight participants from San Antonio for the competition for the International Special Olympics in Dublin, Ireland. 56 are attending  from Texas, and the Texas KCs gave $55,000.  St Anthony of Padua said “Our speech is alive when our works speak.” Our work speaks volumes.
