Minutes of the Archdiocese of San Antonio Chapter, Knights of Columbus

Aug 23,  2007 - Council 7613, St Mark the Evangelist

Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Chapter President Rudy Escamilla at 7:30 pm

Opening Prayer:  Brother Bryan Nelson of Council 7613  led the chapter in a rosary

Pledge of Allegiance:  Led by Freeman Sattelmaier.

Warden’s Report:  Given by Roy Ball who reported 62 members present.

Opening Prayer:  Led by Chapter Vice President Diego Peña.

Recognition of Guests and VIPs:

President Rudy Escamilla introduced the Joseph Chavez family who is our designated Habitat for Humanity Family and members from Habitat for Humanity San Antonio, CEO Dennis Bechhold and Vice President Stephanie Wiese. Rusty League presented the check to Habitat for $50,000 to build a home for the Family. “Take the mission seriously but have fun.” Mr. Chavez and his wife thanked the Knights for their hard work and their son Joseph also thanked the Knights for the house. 

Recognition of Host DD and Grand Knight. The GK Luis Luis and DD Bill Whitman were introduced and thanked

First Time Attendees were recognized.

Minutes.  Minutes of the June meeting was approved as posted on the website.

Chapter Chaplain Report: Bishop Flanagan is in Ireland.

President’s Report:  Chapter President Rudy Escamilla mentioned the dedication of the new building at Assumption Seminary and he thanked Ernie Rodriguez for taking Bishop Flanagan to the dedication. On October 13 St Marks the Evangelist will have 10:30 am mass by the Vatican Postulator and the Basilica of the Little Flower will have 5:30 pm on the same day both are in Spanish. The next day at 12:45 pm St. Rose of Lima will have an additional mass. The St. Rafael Foundation is sponsoring the masses. In addition father Leopold will be installing a plaque celebrating the Papal Visit here in San Antonio and has asked for Citywide turnout from the fourth degree. Rudy requested a show of hands as to how many councils open and close with the Ode..

 
President Escamilla presented an original vestment medal or second degree relic to the first Assembly 3018 the first assembly in the Knights of Columbus named for Saint Rafael Guizar y Valencia.
 
Treasurer’s report: Chuck Green

The budget was presented at the last Chapter meeting and a motion was made to accept the budget as presented. It passed.

The bank balance  is          $2,021.95

 
General Agent:  Richard Gaona. Brother Ken gave a report for the General Agent. If any councils needs materials for recruiting get together with your agent so they can be ordered. If you do not have an agent assigned let him know so they can get one to your recruiting activities. There is a new $25,000 annuity available.

Correspondence: None.

Chapter Committees:

1. Pro-Life- Wayne Pipes thanked the council that helped with Guadalupe home. This also qualifies for the the "Pro Life Wings Award."  Brother Wayne also mentioned the new prayer book that just came for $18 and it is a very good book.

2.  Golf Report-  Rusty League reported that there is the first planning meeting for Monday, September 10, at Holy Spirit at 7 pm. Requested that all councils budget some money for a team for the golf tournament.  We need more support from the councils. It will take $50,000 to build a house at this time. We like to raise more so that the chapter has seed money.

3.  Habitat for Humanity- Henry Gonzalez reported that the construction of the house begin on the 14th of September which is in three weeks. Those DD who have not registered for their dates please call 849-6616. Friday, September 28 is Leadership Day. November 3 is landscaping day that is the day that we need all Catholic Youth groups and Catholic Fraternities. DD do not forget to get the meals for the workers, those include the morning snack with liquids and lunch with liquids.

4.  Retreats- Men’s-Charlie Carvajal, Deacon Roy Amo Retreat Director, Walter Hughen, Klaus Collingsworth, Deacon Vick and John Rutkoski  and others presented a slide show on the men’s retreat on October 26-28, 2007 from 7:30 pm at Camp Tecaboca. 5.  Trustees. No Report

6.  Religious Appreciation Dinner- Roy Ball is the Co-Chair for the Dinner. Planning will begin and he requested that councils budget funds for the dinner. Roy presented all type of things being sold for very inexpensive cost to raise funds for the appreciation dinner.

7.  Veterans Administration Guadalupe Province Representative for the VA Volunteer Services- No report

8.  Toostie Roll Drive- Bill Roeglein reports the Tootsie Roll drive is scheduled for October 20.

9.  Seminarian Report- Angel Perez mentioned that there are thirty-three seminarian from San Antonio. All Seminarians should be treated equally, we need to add them to the list. Each council should pick one to support them by October 17, 2007. Council 7613 will support four seminarian. There are a total of 95 seminarians.

Old Business: None

New Business: The tootsie roll drive needs councils to register and participate. Easy way to pay your "Per Capita" dues.

Diocesan Deputy Report:  Jim Wade was out of town.

Fourth Degree: Mike Morrison. Absent. The next Exemplification is in Victoria on October 20. See the flyer.
